Neil Young has been joined by a diverse bill of local, interstate and international acts in the first announcement of the line-up for the 2009 instalment of the Big Day Out.
The Canadian-born rock icon and outspoken activist marks a major coup for event organisers.
Another major drawcard is British quartet the Arctic Monkeys, who will leave behind the chilly climes of their native Sheffield for the sweaty summer days of our shores.
Among those adding to the international flavour are Kentucky five-piece My Morning Jacket, Manchester duo The Ting Tings, New York five-piece TV on the Radio and British pioneers of rocktronica The Prodigy, who will come armed with a new album due for release in February.
Electro-pop trio Sneaky Sound System, perennial favourites The Living End, Cut Copy and rockers Cog will all fly in from interstate, while drum ’n’ bass exponents Pendulum and the high-flying Birds of Tokyo will help fly the flag for Perth.
More acts will be confirmed in the second announcement of the line-up in November.
The Big Day Out makes its Perth stop on February 1 at Claremont Showground.
