Daylight saving and hours lost

WE are advised to keep out from sun from 10am to 3pm.

But 3pm in reality is 2pm, 12 is 11 and so on. Good or bad for skin cancer?

There is one more important problem.

If in the future somebody will give a compulsory project a trial of five years, 10 years or more, how, in a democratic country, can people fight this?

Because nobody was able to fight the compulsory three-year trial. Nobody.

I regret all precious morning hours on the beaches – so calm, no howling wind, so good for walkers, workers, swimmers, fishermen.

All those hours were lost because of a three-year-old trial of daylight saving.

Jade: I think you should up your study time to 3 hours (that's two hours +1 for spelling).

I fully agree that WA needs DLS. See my post below.

Hi my name is jade and im 14 years old and can't spell. I dont know much but i am doing a perswasive essay on WA reopening the trial for daylight savings. WA needs daylight savings! Tading with the eastern states is rediculas and the amount of people having to do privite banking in thier lunch hour is obserd! Trading and busnisses could benifit majorly by having daylight savings. there is now a 3 hour difference between us and the eastern states and i thought 2 hours was bad!!!!!! aaaawwwww its very frustrating!

I miss going for a evening run after studing for a hour or 2! I wish i had daylight savings, when im 18 i hope the option rises again and you all vote YES!.......... GO DAYLIGHT SAVINGS!

The major population holding states in WA (Vic and NSW) both uphold DLS and continue to do so. Industry and commercial enterprise in WA are held at ransom by the non-players in WA who "just don't like it" and from lengthy conversations be too many clients (mostly aged or child carers/parents that voted against) always _whinge_ at when summer comes and I can't call the governing bodies in VIC/NSW _because they close three hours before we do_. I can't even get phone support at midday because no-one "over there" has much time to do anything an hour before closing time.

Not having DLS must to poor things to our states economy.

For those that are confused about sun exposure - put a hat & sunnies on and wear sunscreen like you would any other day.

Our ancestors survived everything to get to today, so why are we just complicating things and bringing up arguments that are so pointless?

Daylight savings is the best; and it will be voted in this year!!!

to all you people saying 'its not the real time' or '6pm is really 5pm'... get a life!! IT IS THE REAL TIME! the rest of the world is on that time!

oh well, you'll have the rest of your life to get use to it! because daylight savings is here to stay!

I'm not sure where & how people 'lose' hours? When I look at my clock the day still has 24 hours. I love having a cooler morning & a bit of an evening which we don't have in WA without daylight savings - it's just night straight away.

I fear we won't keep daylight savings as Australians in general & WA in particular resent any sort of change. It's a wonder Australia ever left the Stone Age behind & reached the Middle Ages...

I'm sorry for the sarcasm but all that complaining about 'lost' hours, hot nights, increased power consumtion, children not wanting to go to bed & fading curtains... As if it's cooler & you use less electricity without daylight savings. It's ridiculous.

Besides, the referendum will most probably go your way so just sit tight & wait - we're almost there. Soon you'll be able to have your light one 1 hour longer at night & will get hot an hour earlier in the morning. Yay!

I've always thought DLS was an unreasonable imposition, whether by plebiscite or government act. The hour lost in the morning, whatever we may say about it, is framed by the responsibility of our daily schedules. Conversely, the mythical extra hour in the evening(all too often lost to the heat of Perth's summers)is generally not constrained by working schedules. In that way, most people, having lost the sanctity of the early sunrise during summer, and staying inside until the scorching sun retreats at an hour later still in the evening, may wonder exactly what has been saved?

People who want daylight saving want 1 hour more light after work. People who enjoy a morning workout or walk before work, or those who enjoy the evening, they loose that. One wants more whilst all the others loose the lot, sounds really selfish to me. I was talking to a tourist from England the other day and she asked me why do we have daylight savings, I explained. She then said "that's crazy, you have the most beautiful evenings, you should have more activities like open air theaters, concerts, the arts and festivals. She went on to explain, your city is very hot in the afternoons, by time it cools down it's late and I'm ready for bed". So much for tourism will benefit. So I'm voting no

To all you daylight savings lovers.......... I didn't see any of you lot out at night 'enjoying' the extra hour - what a bloody nuisance.

Forget saving an hour in summer, why not make the saving in winter - huh when we actually NEED the extra light. Here I go again to vote NO - when is the WA Govt going to GET IT - the majority DO NOT WANT IT! If you want it then go live on the east coast - they love it over there!

Those of us withy busy lives, work, family and leisure comitments, daylight saving does not work. Up in the dark (not good use of natural light) which is depressing as we get enough of that in winter, switch on lights, not good use of energy, and it just takes longer to wake up. In the evening, the peak of summer is so hot as kids finish school, as work finishes, not good. And yes, its good to go to the beach but anyone who is familiar with beaches in summer, its offshore in the mornings and onshore sea breezes in the afternoon - not that nice. And yes its nice to go out in the evening, but cafes, restaurants etc still close kitchen at same time. But you can't do that every night, so you are at home cooking and eating while its braod daylight. Kids to bed in daylight just sucks. And if you choose or like to make use of the daylight, you are home at 9.30 pm, cook tea and eat about 10.30, clean up etc till 11.30, hang out and relax till midnight.... Up in the dark at 5.30 - 6 am.

Hours lost ? what hours lost, with daylight savings so much more can be done in a day and I enjoy every minute of it. My message is this, "go out and be constructive with all that extra day-time in the evening don't just sit at home waching TV".
I also love to exersise in the morning and there is nothing better than the cool of the early morning hours, dawn light and even the dark is way better than going for a run with the sun in your eyes.
There is a enough gloom in the winter for all those who don't enjoy daylight savings.

We have all lost that beautiful time socializing in the evening, and lost the cool of morn before work or school. How ridiculous.
Bring on daylight losing PLEASE. Early risers get more light. Night lifers get more night. When do we get a daylight losing trial and referendum?

The end of the daylight savings 'trial' is coming up. What are the useless morons, I mean our pollies, going to force us to do next? Where will it end. Next year, a trial to drive on the other side of the road, a 20km/h all over the metro trial, a hike in the GST to 50% trial, but only for 100 years.

I hope those who are against it are aware that when it gets dark earlier their power bills are going to double from now on. Telly, lights, airconditioners and computers all swithched on at 6.30pm Bet Western Power are rubbing their hands.

I agree with Chris. I love daylight saving. I think it's the best thing for bringing family and friends together in our busy world. Extra hour of daylight at the end of the day provides more social time. I'm voting a big Y E S.

I agree with those lost hours. Also we are supposed to water the garden from 6pm onwards, but 6pm is really 5pm. I dont know why, but daylight saving has effected my appetite, sleeping and my whole body just reacts bad to time change like daylight saving. As a matter of fact, WA has perfect sun time, we do not need daylight saving at all. In melbourne, there sun time is different and they have daylight saving and that matches the WA sun time, true. I tried to embrace it this year, but my body clock just couldnt do it. Same goes for loads of people i know because WA does not need it at all. I will leave WA if it came in for good, and thats guarrenteed. The last 3 summers were my worst. I HATE DAYLIGHT SAVING.

"All those hours were lost because of a three-year-old trial of daylight saving."

These hours were not lost they were just an hour later on the clock.
