A HOME-based business baking biscuits and bottling honey can trade from a property in Gnangara on a trial basis despite objections, Wanneroo councillors decided.
The lot in Mobilia Place is zoned “special rural”.
The business, which will involve baking, storing and dispensing, can operate between 7am and 4pm two days per week.
It will be restricted to a maximum of two employees and just two truck deliveries to the property each week.
The proposal was advertised to adjoining landowners for three weeks and the City received several written objections concerning possible increased traffic, vehicles parking on road reserves and future expansion of the business.
Wanneroo planning director Len Kosova said although objections were received, council staff did not take into account the number of submissions.
“It’s not the volume of complaints but the nature and substance, and if they are valid,” he said.
Cr Brett Treby said home business and economic development was a high priority in the City of Wanneroo, so the proposal should receive council support.
Cr Dianne Guise said the business should be given a chance because approval was for a “limited” period.
