BALCATTA Soccer Club will host the second annual Alliance Cup next weekend at Graham Burkett Reserve.
Club committee members established the carnival, which involves 15 of Perth’s best under-12s sides competing for the prized cup.
ECU Joondalup Soccer Club won the inaugural competition in 2009.
This year, three extra teams will be involved and should ensure an even more hotly contested carnival.
Balcatta Soccer Club sub-committee member Joe Topini said that in addition to assisting the development of young players, the junior carnival helped to promote healthy lifestyles for young people.
“What we want is kids doing a healthy sport, not just sitting in front of their TV or computers all day,” Mr Topini said.
Club president Pat Luca wholeheartedly agrees with Mr Topini.
“Well it keeps them fit and it also keeps them occupied,” Mr Luca said.
“Alcohol and drugs cause a lot of problems these days… hopefully we can also teach them some teamwork and some discipline.”
Balcatta Soccer Club is entering its first year in premier division in its 37-year history after earning promotion in 2009.
The club’s senior team has just completed a successful campaign in the night soccer series.
The team finished top of their group and attracted some of the biggest crowds seen during the competition.
Mr Luca sounded a warning to any premier division sides that would take a meeting with his club lightly in season 2010.
“We’re real dinkum about it and we’re going to give it a good shot,” he said.
“Nobody gave us a chance in the night series and we finished top of our group.”
